10 Great Reasons To Choose Acadia For Your Next Family Vacation

Travel and Leisure No Comments »

If you are in search of an ideal family vacation spot, Acadia National Park is definitely worth considering.

This little gem of a park is located on the rugged east coast of Maine. The 47,000 acres that comprise it are diverse, ranging from rocky-topped mountain domes, to thick pine forests, to ocean shoreline, to creeks, lakes, and ponds. Acadia is mostly contained on Mt. Desert Island, but it does extend to the nearby Schoodic Peninsula and even Isle au Haut out in Frenchman’s Bay.

More than 2 million people visit Acadia each year, but you’ll find most of them visit during July, August, and September. Pick a different month for your vacation and the park may almost be deserted. At any rate, even during the busy months, it is easy to get away from the crowds if you try.

Here are 10 great reasons why Acadia is such a great choice for your next family vacation…

1. It is America’s first national park east of the Mississippi. That means it is rich in history and heritage. Take time to learn about the history in one of the visitor centers with your children. They have books, movies, and displays. Or, rent the audiotape auto tour… it provides a wonderful introduction to the park.

2. There are hiking trails to meet every level of outdoor enthusiast. If you are looking for thrills and chills, try the Precipice, West Face Cadillac/Jordan Cliffs, or Beehive Trails, which come complete with iron rungs, ladders, and sheer drop offs. If you want to experience varied terrain, including rolling creek side walking, tramping on boardwalks through marshland, and exploring tidal pools at the ocean’s edge, then you and your family might enjoy the Jordan Creek Trail. Is a leisurely stroll more your style? Then, take advantage of the nicely-groomed carriage roads that you’ll find in every corner of the park or even the mostly flat Jordan Pond Trail.

3. You can try water sports. Rent a canoe on Long Pond on the western side of the island. Or join a sea kayaking group in Frenchman’s Bay out of Bar Harbor. Or just play in the crystal clear waters of one of the many ponds or creeks. You can even spend a day at the beach…Sand Beach. The waters are always cold, but the kids will love it.

4. Leave your car in the hotel or campground parking lot. Acadia has a terrific shuttle system and the wonderful Montagu Accommodation. You can get off most anywhere in the park and re-board when you’re ready. Save on gas and the aggravation of driving too.

5. Enjoy some local culture. If you happen to need a break from the great outdoors, head into Bar Harbor. You’ll find lots of funky little shops, some great restaurants, and even a movie theater or two. If you’re there for the 4th of July, take part in the annual pancake breakfast, town parade, lobster bake, and fantastic fireworks. They come highly recommended.

6. Take a bike ride. Bring your own or you can rent them from one of several shops in Bar Harbor. Then head on over to the park and hit one of the carriage roads. A word of warning… they are all at least a bit hilly, so if you have small children or out of shape family members, don’t bite off more than you can chew. Stick to a short ride around a single lake. Eagle Lake is a great solution.

7. If you have teens, try rock climbing. A couple of outfits in town will fit you with the right gear and then take you out to Otter Cliffs (on the ocean) or Bubble Rock and teach you rock climbing skills and techniques. Great fun!

8. Although when you’re hiking the trails of Acadia, you may feel as though you’re far from civilization, in reality, you’re no more than an hour or two from Bangor, the nearest “big” city. And right outside the park boundaries is the town of Ellsworth, which has a movie theater and small mall, not to mention the local Wal-Mart if you need to restock your camping supplies.

9. Acadia has Montagu Accommodation for every kind of family. There are many fine campgrounds on the island, including Bar Harbor Campground, where you can choose your own campsite, be it ocean view or in the woods. You can also camp right in the park, as long as you’re comfortable with very few amenities. If you want something a bit less rustic, then one of the many cabin and cottage places may be more to your liking. But Acadia’s surrounding towns offer a host of bed and breakfasts, motels, and hotels to suit nearly every budget and preference.

10. There is something for everyone in Acadia, no matter what age or ability. Outdoor activities abound, of course, but there are also opportunities to soak in Maine’s rich history and modern-day culture. Kids might like to spend an evening at Pirate’s Cove, a popular miniature golf venue. Hiking, walking, biking, boating, exploring… Acadia has it all!

So, for your next family vacation and Montagu Accommodation, you can’t go wrong if you spend it in Acadia National Park

Berlin Theatre

Travel and Leisure No Comments »

Since 1987 the successful blue trio “The Blue Man Group” has been entertaining people across the nation. What started with 3 men in New York is now a team of 500 people who present the show in New York, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Berlin, London and Toronto.
The founders of the show are Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton and Chris Wink who invented the concept in 1987. During the first three years they were on the stage in New York on their own without any help or backup.

Today there are 30 Blue Men and more than 50 musicians. The main idea was to create something original…something where the audience can participate and use their imagination. And one thing is certain, they definitely succeeded.

They show is totally different from anything you have seen before: Music, Dance, Theatre, Humour and an array of colours make the Blue Man Group something really special.
The audience is involved during the whole show so be careful if one of the men comes a bit close ;-)

You can’t put the Blue Man Group in any one particular genre as it is so diverse and has so many aspects to it that simply being called a musical or a play is rather insulting.

Playing music on self-made instruments and having a lot of special effects will make it a highlight. Therefore you can be sure there is something in the show for everyone.

The Blue Man Group has been in Berlin since spring 2004 and is still a great success in the German capital. This was the very first production outside the USA and in February 2007 the group moved into their own theatre after more than 1 million people saw the show. In the BlueMax theatre at the Potsdamer Platz there is enough space for that special show. One of the saloons was converted so that 600 visitors can sit there comfortably.

You will find the program, prices for the tickets and the chance to book on the homepage of the organizer Stage Entertainment (www.stage-entertainment.de)

Come to Berlin and see the unique show of the Blue Man Group. Have a look for good accommodation (Ferienwohnung in Berlin) like one of the cheap Hotels in Berlin. Most of the apartments (Unterkünfte Berlin) are very central and due to the very good metro system you can reach every point of Berlin easily. Plan your trip in advance since the accommodation as well as the tickets for the Blue Man Group are booked out quickly.

Sixty Second Flick Through Paris Sights

Travel and Leisure No Comments »

Get that Paris accommodation booked! Paris fashion week is set to hit the scene from Monday 26th January to Thursday 29th, 2009 and 6th July Thursday to Thursday 9th July 2009. A huge must see in the diary of many Paris “it” girls, Paris fashion week is a major stop on the trail in search of the latest haute couture, as the schedule begins with New York Fashion week, followed by London Fashion week. The penultimate fashion week is Milan Fashion week and the schedule ends with Paris Fashion week. These four cities are the traditional “big four” fashion weeks that are followed by new emerging fashion weeks globally. The Menswear shows occur in between autumn(fall)/winter and spring/summer in Milan.

This year invited guests only will have the delight of feasting on the works of some less known talents, but amongst which, they will see the latest Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter collections from Nina Ricci, Paco Rabanne, Paul Smith, Stella Mc Cartney, Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier and Versace. Everyone who is everyone needs to be seen attending Paris fashion week and you can be assured that the posh hotels, bars, clubs and restaurants will be full to brimming with fashion victims.

Plus, with regards to fashion week, a series of six conferences about “Histoires de la Mode” took place at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs on September 25th and October 30th. A third session will take place this year on November 27. These meetings are organized and hosted by Didier Grumbach, the author of the “Histoires de la Mode” and Pamela Golbin, the curator of the fashion and textile collections at the Arts Décoratifs. The conferences were created to examine the growth of the fashion and textile trade, couturiers and fashion designers; the transformation of the media from the Jardin des Modes to Internet web sites ; the role of buyers at department stores and multi-brand retailers. The conferences will be repeated next year due to a shortage of spaces, and the dates are: February 5th, March 26th, and May 14th. For reservations and information, contact: conference@lesartsdecoratifs.fr

Finally, make sure you book your apartment in Paris or hotel Paris early if you are planning a weekend in Paris in January or July. Next year things really start hotting up around fashion week, and you may find that it is difficult to get around the city as it was before. Paris fashion week will take place at the Carrousel du Louvre’s rooms, in the center of Paris (99 rue de Rivoli, Paris 1er) as per usual, and the room will be decked out in sumptuous materials, decorations and luxury. The Delorme Room - March 2008 was the spot for this year’s fashion week and it looked fantastic.

Travel Incentives To Boost Your Business?

Travel and Leisure No Comments »

Everyone loves a freebie, but can you really get one for travel or a vacation? We have all seen the offers from various businesses. This marketing tool has been around for decades and you can decide if this method of increasing business is right for you. This Article is being brought to you by montagu accommodation

The most infamous of all “free vacations” is the stay at a resort where you are required to attend a time-share presentation. Actually, these are great offers if you don’t mind sitting through a high-pressure sales presentation for 2-3 hours. For many it is worth it. But if you do decide to take advantage of one of these offers, leave your checkbook and credit cards at home because the salesmen in this industry are very good at what they do.

Just go in with a firm resolve that you are not going to buy anything and give the salesman their due respect, they are just doing their jobs and after all you made a deal! You knew what you were getting into, so pay the piper, do your time and enjoy the vacation. Ever thought of montagu accommodation

One of the most popular offers used by off-line and on-line businesses is the “vacation certificate”. Even though these are presented as free, there are costs involved. But if you understand these offers and how they work, they can be quite lucrative in helping expand your business and make you clients very happy also.

Here are some things to look for before purchasing any of these certificates. Blackout dates-they are in the fine print and read them carefully. Some are reasonable some are not. Blackout dates between December 1, and January 15 are fairly common as most certificates won’t allow travel during peak holiday seasons. Also, try to stay away from certificates that specify or restrict travel to certain day of the week.

Make sure the “lead time” or advance notice for the reservations do not exceed thirty days for a short 3-day vacation or 60 days for an 8-day vacation.

The hotels, knowing in advance from previous trends when they will have vacant rooms that will not be sold, make almost all of these vacations possible. The hotels figure the room is going to stay empty anyway, so why not invite a guest to stay for free with hopes that they will spend money in their casinos, restaurants and shops. If the traveler enjoys their stay they may even come back or extend their vacation at the resort.

You do not get to choose the destination property, as this would defeat the purpose of this system. However, industry wide, there are very few complaints about accommodations and you can expect to stay in a 2-4 star property in the location of your choice.

Most travel incentive certificates require a small processing fee, usually around $10.00 to $15.00. Also, almost all will require the traveler to pay the room taxes that would run about $12.00 to $18.00 per night for a 3-day vacation. For longer 8-day vacations the cost could be as much as $300.00.

Consumers love these deals, and many businesses thrive on bringing in new business with these vacation certificates. Another aspect is the good will you can create with your current customers or clients.

Only you can decide if giving away an almost free vacation to your potential clients or customers is a good idea. One of the best features of these certificates is that they are very inexpensive. Some companies even let you print them yourself for a small one time licensing fee. This article was brought to you by montagu accommodation

Rome We Love You

Travel and Leisure No Comments »

The news was revealed a few months ago, nevertheless, I still think it deserves some underlining. It appeared in the Sunday publication of an English newspaper “The Telegraph” (or rather “The Sunday Telegraph”) published a detailed comparative research on all of the costs involved for tourists visiting most major European cities. Analyzing all of the possible costs, the aim was to understand exactly what the most expensive city is for the poor tourists in search of entertainment.

Well, it seems that the most expensive “tourist” city is London. The calculations were made based on the cost for an average family of 4 who want to visit the main attractions of the city. The final result is not, in fact, so incredible: it is quite well known that the English capital has always been one of the most expensive cities ever, both for tourism (accommodation, food, entrance fees and transport) and for those who live there. But we have to take into consideration that everything is relevant and that the wage in London is (quite) high and absolutely in line with the cost of living.

The newest revelation is that the city of Rome is definitely a “low cost” destination, beating not only London but also New York and Paris. A trip to Rome, in fact, can cost less than half of what a trip to London would, with the total cost averaging 272 euros (to exactly understand what this amount entails and how it emerged, we recommend you to visit the newspaper’s official site). Although the entrance to the British Museum and the National Gallery is free and does not cost a single penny, it is much cheaper to gain access to the Roman capital’s attractions, The Coliseum and Vatican Museums included.

Rome being a low cost destination is an unexpected surprise and it is one more reason for choosing the ‘eternal city’ as your next holiday destination. You should consider flying there maybe for the bank holiday weekend of the 8th of December, your next Christmas break or maybe even for New Year’s Eve. The possibility of finding one of the cheap apartments (appartamenti Roma) is quite high. Tourists who are thinking of a trip to the capital have the chance to consult online the wide range of apartments (appartamenti a Roma) and just book online in an easy, fast and secure way. If an apartment doesn’t suit your needs, you can choose between a variety of beautiful hotels (hotel a Roma).

I’d say it’s about time to take advantage of a ‘low-cost’ Rome and have some fun!

Most Tourists Visiting London Take A Ride On The London Eye

Travel and Leisure No Comments »

London, the capital city of England and Great Britain, has a large selection of visitor attractions, a large number of of which are amongst the most popular in the country. For generations London has been a popular vacation destination and much of this interest is due to the grandness of the historical architecture and the unique culture. While many of the visitor attractions found in London have some history associated with them, such as the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace the Tower of London, there are many others that are rather modern, such as the London Aquarium, Millenium Dome, Millennium Bridge, and the most popular of these, the London Eye.

The London Eye is usually named as the Millennium Wheel as it was erected in nineteen ninety nine to commemorate the arrival of the new millennium. It was officially opened by the British P.M., Mr. Tony Blair, in the evening of December thirty first unfortunately there was a number of technical problems therefore it was not opened to the public until March 2000. Standing 135m above London the London Eye is now an unmistakable, and incredibly visible landmark.

Way back in 1895, in Earl’s Court, was found the Great Wheel of London, which was an incredibly big Ferris Wheel which was able to accommodate roughly sixteen hundred people a go. Unfortunately it was demolished in 1907 but these days London has something of a replacement in the London Eye. Although it is not the biggest Ferris wheel in the world it can legitimately state that it is the worlds biggest cantilever observation tower!

Although the London Eye cannot carry as many people as could the Great Wheel of London, it is able to carry 25 people in each of its thirty two capsules. Rather differently to a Ferris wheel, in the London Eye, you are allowed to get up and wander around in one of the capsules but you might discover that you want to sit down as it takes around half an hour for it to go through a full revolution.

With as many as 3.5 people riding on the London Eye each year it is, today, the number 1 tourist attraction which charges an entrance fee across London and the United Kingdom. The probable reason why people choose to take a spin on the London Eye is to teke in for themselves the astounding panoramas seen from it. During a revolution of the London Eye a person is able to see the surrounding 4 miles. At this amazing standfpoint a person is able to spot such world famous landmarks as Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s, Buckingham Palace and Hampton Court Palace. of course these are just a small number as you are also able to see the greatest possible views of the majority of the landmarks of London. In fact the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben look as though they are directly below you.

Many people choose to use a trip on the London Eye as an opportunity to make a marriage proposal and it is actually possible to get married there. When booking a flight it is also possible to book other things such as educational trips for small groups of students of all ages.

If if you are staying short time the London Eye is a real life saver as it is possible to take in nearly all of the finest London landmarks during the 30 minute trip which is impossible to do any other way (excluding a helicopter or balloon ride). Luckily it is not too difficult to find hotels near the London Eye which will save you more time. If you are on a tight budget you will be relieved to know that it is also possible to book cheap London hotels without too many hassles

A Useful Consideration Of Helicopter Tours Over The Grand Canyon

Travel and Leisure 1 Comment »

People who have not been hammered too hard in a tough economy are looking for more creative options for their fun and general enjoyment. As you consider options for your next exciting vacation, perhaps you’ve been weighing the prospect of a helicopter tour.

If you’re planning to book one of exciting Grand Canyon helicopter tours, read on for a review of the four most popular tours and companies operating in Arizona and Las Vegas.

The All-American Helicopter Tour
Rating: 4/5

This tour of the Grand Canyon leaves from the Las Vegas airport and takes approximately 3.5 hours. The trip from Las Vegas to the western edge of the canyon is about 45 minutes in each direction. The tour includes landing in the canyon for a champagne lunch, limo pickup and drop-off to and from your hotel, and flying over Lake Mead, Lake Las Vegas and the Las Vegas strip.

The cost of this tour typically hovers around $300. However you should budget for a potential fuel surcharge being added on at the last minute. This unexpected and unadvertised fee is what cost the All-American a five out of five score. Instead of surprising passengers with a $40 expense, they should simply advertise the new price.

Grand Canyon Helicopter Adventure
Rating: 3/5

These Grand Canyon helicopter tours are from Phoenix, and the majority of the day is spent on a bus. If you’re prepared for a 13-hour day, then you can ride a bus from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon airport and afterward enjoy a short helicopter ride.

If you’re tight for time and want a full day that includes a stop in Sedona, a drive through Oak Creek and the Grand Canyon, then this is the trip for you. However, for those looking for a relaxing helicopter ride and a short day, you may want to leave from somewhere closer to the canyon. This helicopter and bus tour is priced from $289.

The West Rim Combo Tour with Papillon
Rating: 4.5/5

Papillon is a major helicopter tour operator in Las Vegas, but they also do runs from the Grand Canyon airport. One of their most popular tours is the West Rim Combo that leaves from Las Vegas and includes a boat ride.

The trip starts with a pickup at your Las Vegas hotel. From there is a ride in a luxury SUV to the Grand Canyon where you’ll take a short helicopter ride to the bottom of the canyon for lunch. Afterward is a trip on a boat down the Colorado River where you’ll be picked back up.

The full day is a great value at around $345, particularly since it includes lunch. That said, the tour makes a stop at the now-open SkyWalk, but its $30 SkyWalk admission cost is not included in your tour fee.

Maverick Helicopter Tours
Rating: 4.8/5

Maverick has two departure locations - Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon airport. Their Canyon Spirit trip costs just $245 and is one of the few Grand Canyon helicopter tours that actually takes you through the canyon and over the Kaibab National Forest.
