The first time I went to London, it was to attend a seminar in Plymouth. I had everything arranged for me, I stayed in an expensive hotel and everything was taken care of.
I was taken to all the old pubs and nearby spots during the evenings after seminar sessions. The seminar went on for a week. After the seminar I stayed back for a couple of weeks and had a great time. As you know, I always try to find cheap hotels to stay in, well.. if I have to pay for the stay. 
But I have to say this for London hotels. All hotels are great and even the reasonably priced ones have most of the comforts to make your stay a pleasant one. The service is generally very good.
Now with online booking facilities it is not very difficult to find good London apartments and hotels. Once the hotel matter is comfortably settled, you can enjoy the trip and make the most of the beautiful places.
But remember to do a search and find the cheap and best hotels in London, before you plan the trip. Things could be pretty expensive in London and I would not like you to worry about the expenses and miss the pleasure of such a wonderful trip.
