London, the capital city of England and Great Britain, has a large selection of visitor attractions, a large number of of which are amongst the most popular in the country. The London Eye is usually named as the Millennium Wheel as it was erected in nineteen ninety nine to commemorate the arrival of the new millennium. It was officially opened by the British P.M., Mr. Tony Blair, in the evening of December thirty first unfortunately there was a number of technical problems therefore it was not opened to the public until March 2000. Standing 135m above London the London Eye is now an unmistakable, and incredibly visible landmark.
Way back in 1895, in Earl’s Court, was found the Great Wheel of London, which was an incredibly big Ferris Wheel which was able to accommodate roughly sixteen hundred people a go. Unfortunately it was demolished in 1907 but these days London has something of a replacement in the London Eye. Although it is not the biggest Ferris wheel in the world it can legitimately state that it is the worlds biggest cantilever observation tower!
Although the London Eye cannot carry as many people as could the Great Wheel of London, it is able to carry 25 people in each of its thirty two capsules. Rather differently to a Ferris wheel, in the London Eye, you are allowed to get up and wander around in one of the capsules but you might discover that you want to sit down as it takes around half an hour for it to go through a full revolution.
With as many as 3.5 people riding on the London Eye each year it is, today, the number 1 tourist attraction which charges an entrance fee across London and the United Kingdom. The probable reason why people choose to take a spin on the London Eye is to teke in for themselves the astounding panoramas seen from it. During a revolution of the London Eye a person is able to see the surrounding 4 miles. At this amazing standfpoint a person is able to spot such world famous landmarks as Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s, Buckingham Palace and Hampton Court Palace. of course these are just a small number as you are also able to see the greatest possible views of the majority of the landmarks of London. In fact the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben look as though they are directly below you.
Many people choose to use a trip on the London Eye as an opportunity to make a marriage proposal and it is actually possible to get married there. When booking a flight it is also possible to book other things such as educational trips for small groups of students of all ages.
If if you are staying short time the London Eye is a real life saver as it is possible to take in nearly all of the finest London landmarks during the 30 minute trip which is impossible to do any other way (excluding a helicopter or balloon ride).
