I’ve received so many emails from all of you regarding your own experiences with the Airtel Data Card and I’ve also received comments on different blogs. Here’s a comment that I want to share with you and the reply I posted to this comment.
“You have had a bad experience with Airtel. Someone else has had a bad experience with Reliance. You tell us to not use Airtel. He tells us not to use Reliance. Add every other company on the surface of the Earth, and, if following your advice, it would be the end of consumerism and capitalism. Great, if you ask me.”

And he goes on to say what I need to do to get a response from Airtel. (Interestingly, one of his suggestions is not to use an Airtel Data Card because it is very outdated. He suggests that we buy another data card and then use an Airtel SIM to connect to the network. Hm…)

My answer to this comment:

Hi Pundabee,

You are right - every company might have some issues. I don’t think Reliance is any better and I have had my own experiences with them too. But the fact is, that had I known about the problems Airtel has, I would have never wasted my money in this data card.

I’ve already done everything you suggested, and presented my case in a calm and composed manner to the Airtel Customer Support. But of course that did not work.

I didn’t start my blog the first day I realised the card wasn’t working. I took my laptop and data card to the Airtel office and waited there for a whole day for those guys to fix it or at least figure out what the problem is. Didn’t work.

Then, I waited for a week to hear from them, called them again, went back to the office - this time with two laptops just in case they thought my laptop was faulty. The Airtel card did not work in either of the laptops.

Then, I waited for two more weeks - went to the office, this time with two laptops and one more data card - from Tata. The Tata one worked on both laptops, the Airtel one didn’t. Don’t you think that should have given them a clue? NO!

Finally, after I found out that the Airtel people didn’t know how their own product works and they refused to replace it for us, I started my blog.

As far as the warranty goes - I’ve been there thrice and my data card hasn’t been replaced yet. What does that say about their 24 hour replacement guarantee?

All I’m trying to do with my blog is to show people what they can expect if they buy an Airtel Data Card. If I had found this info before I purchased the data card, I would have never considered purchasing the Airtel Data Card. Unfortunately, I found this info 3 weeks after I got the data card and it was too late then.

And I am not the only person - after I started the blog there have been lots of people who wrote in to me and said they have had the same problem with Airtel - and some of them have been fighting for years. So it’s not like Airtel is going to smile and give me a replacement right away (and yes, they also have a NO REFUND policy - I guess they would rather have unsatisfied customers than no customers).

Maybe the Airtel Customer Support in other countries is way better than it is in India, but that doesn’t help me because I am in India and I am stuck with this horrible experience with Airtel. You are right in saying that we shouldn’t take decisions based on other people’s opinions - but if we don’t share our experiences companies like Airtel and Reliance will get away with anything and keep on scamming more people. Sorry, I’m not going to accept that.

These companies got away with this kind of a behavior for so long because they thought no one was going to complain. Each scammed customer would try for sometime, get no results and then think that they are the only ones unfortunate to get a faulty product and just leave it. But now, with the power of the Internet, we can share our thoughts and opinions and warn others about such companies and this is what I am doing. And hopefully, companies like Airtel and Reliance will wake up and realise that they can retain more customers if they start selling better products and offer reliable customer support.

    Hi Rangoo,

I use a cable internet connection, I work from home only. So I have no experience with airtel datacard.

If you are not getting the service that was promised at the time of purchace of any item, you must fight to get it. Letting people get away with ‘chalata hai’ leads only to more incompetance.

Hope your problem is solved soon.

Which Cable connection do you use Nayana?

    Does it work well?

    Share it with our readers.

    Thanks.

    Dear Rangoo,

Thanks for making us aware about the lacunae in Airtel policies. I have a
sim card for my mobile from Airtel, which is the most expensive scheme that
I ever bought. It is for a period of two years and each out going call costs
me Rs. 2.49 paisa within Gujarat and outside it is much more expensive. When
I contacted the local dealers here, they tell me I cannot change. So I stay
put. I wish I could change from Airtel, but then you have to inform everyone
about the change and also change your business card.

For my internet, I use BSNL cable connection and I am satisfied with that.

Thanks Dr. Juneja for sharing with our readers the problem you are facing with Airtel.

I have also applied for BSNL and I may get it in a couple of days.

But Data Cards, If they work properly are great for people on the move.

I hope for their business sake at least they wake up to the fact they have to have satisfied customers.

And we want to prove to them that it is not in their benefit to take the customers for a ride.

    Dear Rangoo,
Empathize with u and ur ghastly experience with airtel. I had a similar experience..but with the other bigwiggie…Reliance..!
i am a student, and use the internet for project research…which is pretty much everyday….the internet has becum a lifeline fr students like me….

now i had a reliance data card which one day decided to stop workin…I took the matter up with the cust care…they told…mayb u hvnt paid ur bill….so i paid upp….like 800bucks…they said thye wud activate it in a few hours…i went home….but no luck…..went bak to them…they said to send it to the service station….did tht…those guys sent it bak…..afetr a week…..no luck again….so i went bak to the cust care….paid another bill…so now i had efectively paid twice in teh same month for nt using the net at alll…!!!after having paid again….i hoped th net would work…but no luck…!!ofcourse by tht tym i was harrowed as i was in th midst of all my submissions…so in th end half my days wer spent at the reliance web world arguing with the ppl….and th other half at stuffy cyber cafes!
the ppl at reliance were most inefficient….unsupportive…rude…lackadaisical…
I always went thr alone.without any big burly male supprt,…spoke politely, .but they frustrated me so much!!Cuz i was tryin so hard to maitain my kool….and b nice…and there they see this girl who isnt kickin up a fuss so they took me for granted….no one paid attention to my problem!!!i cant tell u how frustrating it wasss…..so fianlly i just gave up and bought an airtel connection! i foolishly dint bother with much research…just asked a couple of ppl…and then went ahead with my purchase.!!!it just got activated today…so i thot i would read a few customer reviews…silly me….doing it after havin bought it…but yea th point i am tyrin to make here is….u say airtel is pathetic…take it frm me reliance is like the pits! i am learnin services marketing as one of my subjects….after havign learnt th finer details of services marketing it appals me how a mammoth sized company like reliance can take their customers for a ride….

so yesss..i am very very confused….i hope my tryst with airtel is better than that which i had with reliance…i’m nt sum busineess executive who can afford to switch data cards so often…so im gonna have to ride it out….but i will defiantely post anothe rreview soon!!!

I guess since i have used both co’s data cards….i shud post my review for ppl who are confused abt which co to opt for!!!

dunno if wht ive typed even makes sence…most of it is written out of sheer frustration n anger at bein treated soooo shabbily!!!But yeaa…..its kinda therapeutic to blog!!i feel better already…

    thnx!!!
