It will no longer pay if internet marketers just promise the skies and ride the boat of hype. They will be drowned in no time.

It has become necessary for internet marketers to bash such claims, expose the wrong doers and present their own claim as the one that will do the trick to fill the pockets of their customers.

If you watch Jim Edwards videos, webinars and read the blog posts you will know what I am talking about. He is not the only one. Now it has become a necessity for every marketer to do it.

Google Wave is an excellent platform for promoting interactive learning. You need to be part of the process to understand how easy it is to announce a topic for discussion, get everyone to contribute and enrich each other’s knowledge.

Wave can be really useful in the classroom. Students can use it for collaborative note-taking, sharing assignments with the group and with the teacher, and for group-work/pair-work within or outside of the classroom. Students who’ve missed the class or would like to learn at their own pace can use playback to replay the discussions.

Here are some tips on using Wave in the classroom

• Check the Organizing your Waves section on some Admin tasks that need to be done before the class starts. This will help your students find the class waves easily.
• Create a ‘Welcome Wave’ for the class and include:

• Have a handout ready for the basic tasks in Wave. For example, in order to take notes, your students need to know how to create a new wave, edit and add their own comments to it. This will help them focus on the task at hand and not get overwhelmed about learning a new tool. You can create these handouts from the PDF version of the Google Wave Tutorial.
• Use templates to cut down the time spent on creating new waves and to ensure everyone in the class follows the same format. Here are some templates you can share with your class.
• If there are any study materials or class notes that you don’t want students to edit, create a wave, add the class group as a read-only participant and ask them to create new waves to discuss the contents.

1. A mind-map outlining the steps he took from the inception of the dream to forming the teams to learning from mistakes and restructuring the vision.

2. A reference list of selected people who worked to realize their dreams with a short synopsis of the hurdles they faced and solutions they arrived at.

3. A set of statements that can be converted into posters to be hung on walls. You can take a survey, identify the areas where you are likely to lose-heart, choose the appropriate quotations, print them out and hang them in prominent places.

I always thought I would never need a video converter software – until last week.  I had to convert a DVD (a home video)  for my iPod because my laptop with the original files crashed! Two of my friends needed a video converter because they joined an online class and couldn’t access the classwork videos with the software they had on their computers.  Then, another friend asked me to recommend a converter since he wanted to upload some files to a video sharing site and had recorded the videos in the wrong format.  Since I’m the resident expert for all things online, I was given the honour(!!!) of finding the right kind of software for all of us.

So,  I spent a large part of the weekend just downloading all kinds of video converters and testing them out.  I was amazed to see the number of converters available online but I ended up uninstalling almost every single one of them. Most of them had really shady websites and I was afraid I would end up installing a virus or malware along with the software. From the 20 odd ones that I decided to install, the user interface (UI) looked really hard to understand and one took an hour to convert the file (which didn’t work very well – not worth the wait at all).  (Side Note: If you do choose to download stuff from shady sites, I strongly recommend you install a very good anti-virus/anti-spyware software and if possible, download and try the software on an old laptop).

But, I finally succeeded in this herculean task and found a really good tool – Altysoft Free Video Converter.

Even before I tested it out with any videos, there were three things that set it apart from the loads of junk software available on download sites.

• one, it has a really professional UI – very simple to use and easy to understand. Here’s what it looks like:

  

• two, it has it’s own website! If you had spent as much time as I did searching for these converters, you would be as happy as I am too to find out you don’t have to go to some sleazy download site to get this software
• three, this was one software which could convert a range of video formats – most of the software I downloaded could do single conversions (WAV to MP3, DVD to MP4 etc) so it was good to see one tool that could do it all

This also came out as my top favourite for all the test videos I converted. It took less time than most and the videos didn’t come out grainy or compressed as they did in some of the other converters.
